Welcome#

Warning

This course is in beta right now. We're about 80% done with content. Please be patient with us :-)

Thank you for your interest the IT Fundamentals course.

I'll get straight to the point: this course is aimed at getting you to the level of a Junior CloudOps Engineer. It's the first part of a career into DevOps and becoming a DevOps Engineer. This doesn't happen overnight and there are multiple courses you'll need to take. This is not a way to "shortcut" the system or game the market. You will study, learn, practices, build, break, and more, your way to a job. This takes time and patience.

The course is designed to give you direction and focus, so that you can stop trying to decide what technologies to study or what skills businesses/employers want and instead focus on studying what's in demand and getting a job. This course teaches you what you need to know to begin applying for junior level positions.

I've been developing this course for months, pushing out thousands of words per day, recording hours of videos, and more, so that you've got guidance on how-to break into an amazing industry and start earning some solid money, not to mention improve your work/life balance, your (mental) health and more.

Warning

I cannot promise you'll get a job. I can only teach you the skills; you can do the projects and assessments; create a LinkedIn profile; write a CV and send them out to job openings; but ultimately, I cannot make any promises. The economy can be a cruel beast that simply won't yield you a job. I obviously have little control over this aspect of your life.

What you'll learn#

This course focuses on teaching you several key skills to a junior level:

  • Hardware Basics
  • Operating Systems
  • Networking
  • Cyber Security
  • Virtualisation
  • System Administration
  • Cloud Computing

With these skills, you can start applying for junior positions in large organisations, Managed Services Providers (MSPs), and more. All of these skills are how I started out from a young age and they've served me very well. I've also surveyed many professionals in the industry and they agree that these fundamental skills act as the foundation you need to kick start a career in IT.

If you take the time to process the contents of this course you will be in a great position to start looking for employment in the amazing field of Cloud computing, with a strong focus on Amazon Web Services.

Who is this course for?#

It's for people who are looking to develop a career in Information Technology (IT), with a focus on Cloud computing.

The course is for people who work in hospitality, the service industries, minimum wage jobs, and just about anywhere you can imagine. It's for those who want something better for themselves, their family and their future. This is a course for people who have had enough of minimum wage and hard hours; those who want a bigger slice of the economic pie.

This course is also for just about anyone who has an interest in IT. You can be lawyer, doctor, engineer, police officer, judge, or some other professional. It doesn't matter. If you have a desire to change your life, then the option is right here, in this very course.

Why did you write this?#

Getting into the field of IT can be daunting. It's a massive field with a lot to learn. There are many possible directions to go in and many different things to study. Even with a focus on DevOps the journey ahead is unknown and complex.

This course is designed to provide you direction and guidance on what to study and when. Without this focused approach you'll attempt to study too much, too fast and your knowledge will be fragmented and hard to apply to the real-world.

IT is a massive field. There are thousands of ways to solve problems and there are even more technologies to solve them. Due to this sheer complexity, this course gives the reader a hyper-focused, linear structure to follow. This structure is intended to keep the student focused on particular topics and technologies that will help them get jobs as well as teach them core, fundamental concepts they can use regardless of the technologies they need to work with.

Without this course your other options are tens of thousands of video courses, teaching you too much, with no project at the end, no way to contact the educator, no idea of where to go next let alone where to start, and just general confusion.

You need this course because it's offering you an 80/20 Principle approach to learning the core IT topics. This course is designed to tell you what you need to study and then gives you the exact content to study. It's all balanced to be the right amount of introductory information designed not to waste your time and keep you laser focused. By the time you're done, you walk away with multiple projects; a blog; a CV designed and written; a LinkedIn profile; interviewing tips; and more.

You walk away prepared and ready to apply for jobs.

Why not "A Cloud Guru" or "CBT Nuggets"?#

I'm challenging the way we currently teach IT online. The way it's done now is via thousands of videos, one after the one, giving you so much detail on a topic that you'll likely never need, or use, in a real job. And that's if you don't get bored part way through and just quit, because that's what happens to me and I love this stuff.

This course is all of that childhood learning compressed into a few pages of text, videos, projects, quizzes, and more. I spent 15 years learning this stuff before getting a job in IT, with no high school education and no University degree, and now you can do the same in months, not years.
